Vice Chancellor of the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Prof. Hamidatu Daramani, has urged graduates of the Competency-Based Training (CBT) programme at the Wa Technical Institute to use their practical skills to create jobs rather than wait for employment.
She said the Upper West Region and other parts of Ghana offered numerous opportunities for technically skilled people to establish businesses and solve everyday problems.
Prof. Daramani identified solar installation, automobile servicing, welding, construction, ICT services and agricultural machinery as some areas where graduates could turn their skills into viable enterprises and create employment for others.
“The money is not only in Accra and other places. The money is where there is a problem and you have been trained to solve problems,” she said.

She cautioned the graduates against placing too much emphasis on certificates, stressing that while certificates could open doors, competence, creativity and good character would determine whether they could sustain opportunities and build successful careers.
Prof. Daramani also encouraged the graduates to take pride in technical and vocational professions, describing skilled workers as indispensable to the growth and development of every economy.
