The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu, Atta Issah, has launched a GH¢2.6 million women empowerment programme aimed at expanding entrepreneurship, boosting incomes and improving livelihoods among women across the constituency.
Dubbed the FAABAHI Women Empowerment Programme, the initiative seeks to provide financial support to women engaged in petty trading, food processing, farming, fashion and beauty, artisan work and other small-scale businesses.
At the launch ceremony held at the Naa Bapri Sagnar Naa Palace, the MP announced the disbursement of an initial GH¢860,000 to about 52 women’s groups across communities in the constituency.
The funds are being provided as interest-free loans, with beneficiaries expected to repay them through manageable fortnightly instalments. According to Mr Issah, the revolving nature of the facility is intended to enable the programme to support more women over time.
A second phase of disbursements is expected to take place in December 2026.
Mr Issah said FAABAHI was designed not merely as a financial intervention but as a mechanism for creating sustainable economic opportunities for women and strengthening household incomes.
“FAABAHI is more than money. It is about creating opportunities for petty traders, food processors, farmers, artisans, fashion and beauty entrepreneurs and other small business owners to grow sustainable businesses, support their families, and contribute to community development,” he said.
He said empowering women economically would have wider benefits for households and communities, particularly in areas such as education, nutrition, healthcare and local economic activity.
The MP therefore urged beneficiaries to treat the funds as business capital and use them responsibly to ensure the sustainability of the programme.
He also encouraged the women to maintain accurate business records and comply with the agreed repayment schedules, stressing that responsible repayment would allow the fund to revolve and reach additional beneficiaries.
Mr Issah expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, women’s leaders and programme managers for their support and partnership in bringing the initiative into operation.
He said the ultimate objective was to establish FAABAHI as a sustainable platform for women’s economic empowerment in Sagnarigu.
“Together we will turn FAABAHI into a lasting engine of empowerment for the women of Sagnarigu,” he said.
