The Savannah Regional Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Fatahiya Mohammed, has begun mobilising women in the region for the party’s 2028 comeback bid, urging them to support the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
She is banking on the Akufo-Addo administration’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy and the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) programme to persuade women to return the NPP to power.
According to Hajia Fatahiya, Free SHS remains one of the strongest reasons women should support the NPP because it eased the financial burden of educating children, particularly for mothers who she said bear much of the responsibility for their children’s upkeep and education.
“NPP has done a lot for women and the youth, especially through Free SHS and NABCO,” she said in an interview with the media.
She said the NABCO programme, which engaged about 100,000 young people under the Akufo-Addo administration, also provided indirect economic relief to women and families by creating employment opportunities for young people.
Hajia Fatahiya argued that women would be decisive in the 2028 presidential election, noting that women constitute the majority of Ghana’s population and have historically played a major role in determining electoral outcomes.
She therefore urged women in the Savannah Region to unite behind the NPP and work towards securing victory for Dr Bawumia in 2028.
Her call followed a strategic meeting with constituency women’s organizers in the region at the NPP’s regional office in Damongo on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Hajia Fatahiya said the meeting was intended to strengthen unity among the party’s women’s wing and develop strategies for mobilising women ahead of the 2028 elections.
She acknowledged that building unity would take time, stressing that the cooperation of constituency organizers was essential to achieving the party’s electoral objective.
“I need the support and cooperation of all the constituency women’s organizers to succeed,” she said.
