The Supreme Court has fixed Tuesday November 12, 2024 to deliver its judgment in the case filed by Alexander Afenyo-Markin challenging the Speaker of Parliament decision to declare four seats vacant on October 17.
The panel of seven presided over by the Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo fixed the date after hearing oral submissions from lawyers of the Plaintiff and the Attorney General.
With lawyers of the Speaker of Parliament absent and directive for them to file statement of case not complied with, the Court said the panel will deal with the matter on Tuesday.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin filed a writ at the Supreme Court seeking an interpretation of article 97(1)(g£(h), a provision relied on by the Speak led to declare those seats vacant.
The affected Members of Parliament are Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West constituency in the Central Region, Hon.Andrew Asiama Amoako, MP for Fomena Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Kwadwo Asante, Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region and Hon Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah, MP for Amenfi Central in the Western Region.
The judgment on Tuesday will decide the fate of the affected Members of Parliament.
