Sticker pulls gun at campaign grounds to counter ‘Toy Gun’ threat in Kumasi

The Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has been criticized for allegedly pulling a pistol at a public event near Atasemanso Zongo while campaigning for the upcoming December 7 elections.

The incident reportedly unfolded when constituents blocked the MP, demanding answers about a stalled Astroturf project he had initiated in the Atasemanso community.

During the heated exchange, some youth reportedly engaged in firing toy guns, a common occurrence at such events.

According to witnesses, one of the youths allegedly pointed a toy gun at the MP from about 10 meters away.
“The MP came to campaign in our community. Both NDC and NPP supporters were holding toy guns and firing them. Unfortunately, one of the supporters pointed a toy gun at the MP,” an eyewitness told Kumasimail.com on condition of anonymity.

Provoked by the act, Dr. Stephen Amoah, popularly known as “Sticker,” reportedly ran to his vehicle and returned with a pistol, attempting to confront the individual.

However, by the time he returned, the youth who had pointed the toy gun had fled the scene.

Meanwhile, Gyimmy Boakye, a member of the Nhyiaeso NPP communication team, has defended the MP’s actions, explaining that Sticker was unaware the gun pointed at him was a Toy Gun.

“The MP didn’t know the gun pointed at him was a toy gun. If he had known, he wouldn’t have reacted that way. It was a scary and unfortunate moment for him,” Boakye said.

Concerns Over Toy Gun Use

The incident has reignited concerns over the growing nuisance of toy guns in Kumasi, especially at public gatherings. Recently, 26 individuals were arrested for disturbing public peace with toy guns, which are often used for entertainment but have caused confusion and fear.

The confrontation has also drawn attention to the MP’s stalled Astroturf project in Atasemanso, with constituents demanding accountability.
The police have yet to comment on the incident or confirm any investigation into the matter.
