Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, for effectively managing security in the region.

Speaking at the signing of a peace pact at the Asokore Mampong Chiefs Palace, he noted that, although he disagrees with some aspects of the Regional Minister’s work, it is only fair to appreciate his efforts.

“Ashanti Region, since the government appointed Simon Osei Mensah as the Regional Minister, has achieved stability in security. He has also worked closely with me on many issues in the region, particularly in the Asawase Constituency,” he said.

Touching on the upcoming elections, the Asawase MP pledged to ensure they are conducted in a peaceful environment.
“I’m here to assure everyone in the Asawase Constituency that this election will be conducted peacefully,” he promised.

However, he warned, “I will not sit down for anyone to cheat me in this election. Therefore, we should all make sure the election is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere,” he emphasized.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Manaf Ibrahim, also committed to ensuring a peaceful election.

He said, “Nananom, if there is any violence in these elections in Asawase, it will never come from me. I have spoken to my supporters about it, and I remain committed to my promise. As my senior brother, Hon. Muntaka, has said, I am equally committed to the signing of the peace pact, and I will sign it.

“There’s no need for us to worry because this is the first time I haven’t heard anyone describing Asawase as a flashpoint in the constituency. This is because we have both conducted our campaigns peacefully. I am confident that in the remaining nine days to the elections, the Asawase Constituency will remain peaceful,” he concluded.

The Municipal Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission used the event, chaired by Asokore Mamponhene Nana Boakye Ansah Debrah, to provide electoral education for the electorate who attended the program.

He assured attendees that the Electoral Commission in the constituency would ensure fairness in the elections.

The Asawase District Police Commander also reiterated the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding the elections.

“I want to assure the general public that this election will be peaceful. We will make sure the constituency is safe for you all to go out and vote for your preferred candidate,” he stated.

He added, “Asawase has been noted as a flashpoint in previous elections, but let’s not give people a reason to describe this constituency as a flashpoint again,” he pleaded.
