The Ministry of Education has approved the fees and charges proposed by the University of Ghana for the 2025/2026 academic year, directing that most existing charges remain unchanged, according to a press statement issued on January 12, 2026.
The approval follows a meeting held on January 8, 2026, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Abas Apaak, with officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and representatives of the University of Ghana, including its council, management, and students.
Under the approved fee structure, the Academic Facility User Fee will remain pegged at the 2024/2025 rate. Students will continue to pay GH¢50 as Student Representative Council (SRC) dues, while the SRC Development Levy has been set at GH¢150.
Graduate students under the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) will pay a development levy of GH¢250.
Additionally, a GH¢122 telecel broadband levy has been approved for all undergraduate students, including freshmen.
The ministry emphasized that this broadband fee is optional and students must be adequately informed of their right to opt out.
The statement also approved a GH¢100 75th Anniversary levy but noted that the charge cannot be extended beyond the 2025/2026 academic year.
The ministry clarified that the approved fees and charges apply exclusively to the University of Ghana and cannot be adopted by any other public tertiary institution in the country.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Education has constituted a Fee Review Committee to assess future fee adjustment proposals submitted by public tertiary institutions. The committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister, will make recommendations to Parliament for approval.
The Ministry of Education called for continued cooperation from all stakeholders as efforts continue to ensure fairness and accountability in tertiary education financing.
