Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John has toured major government-funded projects in the Saboba District, expressing satisfaction with the progress of work on key infrastructure.
He commended the Saboba District Assembly for strengthening transparency through its Accounting to the People Forum.
The minister made the remarks on Thursday after touring several projects with the Saboba District Chief Executive, George Wumbei Bilimor, before addressing participants at the forum held at the Assembly Conference Hall.
The inspection took the delegation to Wapuli Senior High School, where work is ongoing on boys’ and girls’ dormitory blocks, teachers’ bungalows and a headmaster’s residence. The minister urged the contractor to maintain quality standards and complete the projects on schedule.
The team also inspected the construction of a polyclinic at Wapuli and commissioned a newly completed three-unit classroom block with a staff common room, office, library and a four-seater KVIP toilet at Borgban.
At the site of the proposed 24-Hour Economy Market in Saboba, Ali Adolf John said the project is expected to boost local trade, create jobs and strengthen agricultural value chains when completed.
The minister further visited Kpalba to inspect construction of a bridge along the Eastern Corridor, describing it as a critical project that will improve transportation, enhance safety and facilitate economic activities by providing year-round access for communities previously cut off during flooding.
Addressing the forum, Ali Adolf John praised the Saboba District Assembly for providing residents with a platform to assess government performance and engage local authorities on development issues. He urged citizens to continue supporting government initiatives and safeguard public infrastructure.
Presenting the Assembly’s performance, District Chief Executive George Wumbei Bilimor highlighted a number of projects and interventions undertaken in the district.
He said construction of the Saboba 24-Hour Economy Market is progressing, while 12 beneficiaries under the National Apprenticeship Programme have received equipment to support their businesses.
According to the DCE, 1,000 bags of NPK fertiliser have been distributed to 520 farmers under the Feed Ghana Programme, while 50 girls have been enrolled onto the Livelihood Empowerment and Productive Inclusion Programme (LEPIP).
He also announced that classroom blocks, teachers’ accommodation and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are under construction in several communities, while 66 schools with a combined enrolment of 18,516 pupils are benefiting from the School Feeding Programme.
Bilimor added that 5,666 people are currently receiving support under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, and 650 persons with disabilities have benefited from the District Assemblies Common Fund.
He said the Assembly has also donated 27 motorbikes to health personnel working at CHPS compounds and procured three additional motorbikes for the Environmental Health Unit to improve service delivery.
The Accounting to the People Forum forms part of a government initiative intended to strengthen transparency, accountability and public participation in local governance.
