The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, after they were intercepted while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Togo.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested in Tatale on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the same day the body of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze was discovered in his bedroom.
According to a police statement issued by the Northern Regional Public Relations Unit, preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor.
Police said investigations began after they received a report that the victim had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood inside his room.
A team of investigators dispatched to the scene found the deceased with a deep cut wound to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. Officers also observed that the bedroom had been ransacked.
During a search of the crime scene, investigators recovered a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack, along with other materials that have been sent for forensic examination.
The victim was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead before his body was deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police said intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects at Tatale as they allegedly attempted to escape through the Tatale route into neighbouring Togo. They were later transferred to the Tamale District Criminal Investigations Department to assist with investigations.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly admitted during interrogation that they conspired to kill the deceased, claiming he had withheld proceeds from internet fraud activities in which they were involved.
Following their arrest, police conducted a search and recovered several items believed to have been stolen from the deceased’s room. The exhibits include multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables.
The recovered items have been retained to support ongoing investigations.
The suspects remained in police custody and were expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, July 13, 2026.
The Northern Regional Police Command said investigations are continuing and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that everyone connected to the crime is brought to justice.
Police also appealed to members of the public to continue volunteering credible information to support efforts to combat crime across the region.
