Thirteen out of the 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Region improved their performance in the 2025 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT), underscoring stronger compliance with public financial management regulations across the region.
The 2025 league table, which assesses MMDAs on compliance with key public financial management indicators, ranked the Tolon District Assembly as the best-performing assembly in the Northern Region with a compliance score of 86.50 percent.
Tolon also recorded one of the biggest improvements nationally, moving from 182nd position in 2024 to 13th in 2025.
The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly placed second in the regional rankings with 83.10 percent after climbing from 162nd to 18th nationally. Tatale-Sanguli District Assembly ranked third with 81.90 percent, improving from 186th to 23rd nationally.
Yendi Municipal Assembly finished fourth with a compliance score of 78.90 percent after rising from 156th to 37th nationally, while Savelugu Municipal Assembly placed fifth with 76.35 percent, improving from 242nd to 51st nationally.
Zabzugu District Assembly ranked sixth with 75.60 percent and moved from 234th to 57th nationally. Gushegu Municipal Assembly followed in seventh place with 75.40 percent after improving from 144th to 59th nationally.
Kumbungu District Assembly placed eighth with 75.30 percent, climbing from 181st to 60th nationally. Mion District Assembly ranked ninth with 71.10 percent after improving from 220th to 79th nationally, while Karaga District Assembly completed the top 10 with 69.60 percent, rising from 218th to 85th nationally.
Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly maintained its national ranking of 113th for the second consecutive year and placed 11th in the regional standings with a compliance score of 60.40 percent.
Nanton District Assembly dropped from 76th to 130th nationally to place 12th in the region, while Kpandai District Assembly improved from 190th to 138th nationally to rank 13th.
Nanumba North Municipal Assembly placed 14th after moving from 192nd to 140th nationally, followed by Nanumba South District Assembly in 15th position with a score of 51.80 percent and a national ranking of 142nd.
Saboba District Assembly ranked last in the region with a compliance score of 37.30 percent after declining from 166th to 215th nationally.
Overall, the assessment showed that 13 assemblies in the Northern Region improved their national rankings, one maintained its position and two recorded declines compared with the 2024 assessment.
The Public Financial Management Compliance League Table measures the extent to which MMDAs comply with financial management laws, regulations and procedures aimed at promoting accountability, transparency and prudent use of public resources.
