Nana Kwame Baffoe, the Nkoranzahene, has formally sworn an oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Asanteman, reaffirming his commitment to the Golden Stool and its traditions.
The ceremony took place on Monday, January 13, 2025, during the year’s inaugural Asanteman Council meeting. This significant act grants Nana Baffoe the legitimacy and recognition to reign as the chief of Nkoranza in accordance with Asante customs.
In his address to Nana Baffoe, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasized the importance of humility and adherence to tradition in leadership. He acknowledged the earlier controversy surrounding Nana Baffoe’s enstoolment, which had been annulled due to procedural irregularities and disregard for tradition.
“Initially, many believed he could bypass tradition and succeed, but that is not possible,” the Asantehene remarked. “He was unaware of the deep historical significance of the stool. Misguided, he sought the position without proper adherence to tradition. However, he has since recognized his errors and corrected his path.”
The Asantehene further stated, “Nkoranza belongs to the Asantehene, and it is my prerogative to appoint a rightful chief. While he carried himself as chief without my blessings, he lacked the true authority that the stool confers. Today, I grant him the right to lead, and I urge him to do so with humility and wisdom.”
Paramount chiefs and divisional leaders also counseled Nana Baffoe, urging him to unite all factions within his jurisdiction, foster harmony, and leverage the town’s abundant natural resources for development. They advised him to collaborate with relevant authorities and to seek guidance from the Manhyia Palace, described as the ultimate source of knowledge on traditional leadership.
Nana Baffoe took the Mpomponsuo sword and solemnly swore the Great Oath of allegiance, pledging his unwavering loyalty to the Asantehene and Asanteman. This marks a new chapter in his leadership as he assumes his duties as the legitimate ruler of Nkoranza.
