Solomon Owusu, a member of the Movement for Change, has taken aim at Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his recent comments about the government’s handling of the cedi.
In an interview with TV3’s NewDay Programme, monitored by Kumasimail, Owusu did not mince words. He challenged Dr. Bawumia’s claim that the current administration has failed to introduce any notable policy to stabilize the cedi.
Owusu argued that sometimes, doing nothing is itself a strategy and if it works, it should be recognized.
He said “Not doing anything in itself is a policy, if he cares to know. If you decide to come to government, and one of your strategies is not to do anything, it’s part of your policy.
“Policy not do anything. And if that one alone can bring the dollar down, then it means it’s a good policy,” he stated.
Owusu further questioned Dr. Bawumia’s economic record.
“He that was doing things the right way, according to him, why did we find the dollar? GHc17.”
He made it clear he’s ready to give credit where it’s due.
“I have no problem praising this government if the cedi is doing well against the dollar. But if things go bad, I’ll be right here calling out the governor of the Bank of Ghana,” he declared.
He also took a swipe at Dr. Bawumia’s track record, pointing out contradictions in his statements over the years.
“When he’s in opposition, then he will be giving us lectures in economic matters. In government, then he says he’s an IT person. How can we be treated to this? This is not fair to the sensibilities of the people of this country.”
