Former Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, has underscored the need to strengthen legal education in Ghana by introducing foundational subjects at the pre-tertiary level.
This follows a courtesy call by the leadership of the African Law Students’ Association Ghana, during which discussions focused on reforms to improve the teaching and study of law in the country.

Dr. Adutwum highlighted the importance of integrating General Arts into the law education pathway to enhance students’ analytical, communication, and interpretative skills.
He noted that building a strong academic foundation is essential for developing competent legal professionals.
He also shared proposals to introduce law as a subject at the Senior High School level, alongside philosophy as a standalone discipline.

According to him, the move would help nurture critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and civic responsibility among young people.
The former minister commended the association for its “Esquire Career Expo” initiative, which aims to expose Senior High School students to career opportunities within the legal profession. The programme is expected to begin with a pilot phase in the Bosomtwe area.

Dr. Adutwum emphasized that the country’s future depends on how well it equips its youth with the capacity to think, reason, and lead, calling for collaborative efforts to strengthen education at all levels.
