Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safe, orderly, and well-managed migration, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has announced.
Speaking after the 2026 first-quarter meeting of the National Coordination Mechanism (NCM) in Accra, the minister said the government remains focused on strengthening migration governance and protecting vulnerable populations.

The meeting followed the presentation of operational equipment to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), funded by the European Union and donated through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the ATTU Project.

According to Mr. Mubarak, the equipment is expected to enhance emergency response capacity, particularly in the Upper East and Upper West regions, where communities are more vulnerable to displacement and migration-related challenges.

He noted that the support would also improve Ghana’s ability to manage internal displacement and strengthen protection systems along the country’s northern corridors.
The event was attended by the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, and the IOM Head of Mission, Fatou Ndiaye.

The two officials described the donation as a strategic investment aimed at boosting Ghana’s emergency preparedness and response systems, as well as safeguarding migrants and at-risk communities.
The initiative forms part of ongoing collaboration between Ghana and its international partners to address migration and humanitarian challenges through coordinated and sustainable interventions.
