The Royal Government of Cambodia has issued a directive ordering African nationals currently residing in the country to leave on or before May 31, 2026, or face arrest, imprisonment and financial penalties for overstaying.
In an official notice issued by the General Department of Immigration under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, the government said the waiver previously granted to African nationals, including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon and Uganda, would officially expire on May 31, 2026.
The notice stated that all foreign nationals whose immigration fines had already been cleared must leave the country before the deadline.
According to the statement, any foreign national found in Cambodia from June 1, 2026, would be arrested either at the airport or any other location within the country.

Authorities warned that affected persons could face a two-year jail term and an $8,000 fine before being permitted to leave Cambodia.
“The Cambodia Police will start arresting any foreigner at any hideout in Cambodia from 1st of June 2026 for overstay and will hand over to the immigration authorities for legal action,” the notice said.
The government urged all affected persons to strictly comply with the directive, stressing that Cambodia would not tolerate violations of its immigration laws.
The notice was issued by Director General of Immigration Lt. Gen. Som Sopheak and approved by Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior, Gen. Sar Sokha.
Cambodian immigration authorities also provided contact details for assistance and further information regarding the directive.
