The Ministry of Defence has inaugurated a committee to develop a policy framework for the establishment of the Ghana Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme, in line with a key manifesto promise by the ruling National Democratic Congress government.
The announcement was made by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi in a statement shared on Facebook.
According to the deputy minister, the committee has been tasked with producing a comprehensive policy document to guide the implementation of the proposed housing scheme for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The committee is chaired by the Principal General Staff Officer of the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Ben Gah.
Other members include representatives from the Office of the President, the Ghana Home Ownership Fund, the Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ghana Armed Forces, the State Housing Corporation, the National Development Planning Commission and the Veterans Administration Ghana.
Mr. Brogya Genfi said the committee had been directed to approach its work with urgency while ensuring broad stakeholder consultation and practical policy recommendations.
The proposed home ownership scheme is expected to address housing challenges faced by military personnel and improve welfare conditions within the armed forces.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader commitment to enhancing the living conditions of security personnel and fulfilling campaign promises outlined in the NDC’s manifesto.
