The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have deployed personnel to several flood-affected communities in Accra to support rescue and relief efforts following heavy rains that have caused widespread flooding.
The operation, known as “Operation Boafo,” is aimed at assisting residents stranded by rising floodwaters and reducing risks to lives and property.
The Commanding Officer of the 48 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah, said military personnel had been deployed to strategic flood-prone areas including Klagon, Tse Addo, Dzorwulu and surrounding communities.
He said the deployment was part of a coordinated emergency response to provide immediate assistance to residents affected by the floods.
Lt Col Amponsah said the team had already rescued several people who were trapped in their homes and had requested support.
He encouraged residents in distress to contact the operation’s emergency line on 0244 312 667 for assistance.
According to him, although some areas remain heavily affected by the flooding, no deaths had been recorded at the time of the update.
The military officer said the situation was being monitored closely as emergency agencies continue working together to manage the impact of the floods across the capital.
