MTN Ghana has presented a cheque of GH¢20,000 and airtime worth GH¢1,000 to the Dagbon Traditional Council in support of the 2026 Damba Festival.
Additionally, the company donated several cartons of assorted drinks and bottled water to the Council.
The items were presented at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi on Monday by a delegation of MTN management and staff led by Simon Amoh, Senior Manager, Regional Sales – North, and received on behalf of the Traditional Council by Chief Musah Yakubu, Spokesperson for the Gbewaa Palace.
The 2026 Damba Festival, which began on August 24, ends today, September 1, bringing to a close days of traditional rites, celebrations and communal activities across Dagbon.
Speaking at the presentation, Mr Amoh said MTN’s support was in recognition of the importance of Damba to the cultural identity and social cohesion of the Dagbon people.
He described Damba as one of the most important traditional celebrations in Dagbon, saying its significance extends beyond festivities to the preservation of the history, faith, customs and identity of the Dagomba people.
He said the festival provides an important platform for Dagomba families and communities to reunite, honour traditional authority, give thanks and renew their commitment to peace and development.
According to him, Damba also plays a critical role in transmitting Dagomba traditions to younger generations through traditional rites, prayer, drumming, dancing and royal processions.
“These values resonate deeply with MTN,” Mr Amoh said, explaining that the company’s support for traditional festivals formed part of its commitment to communities and the preservation of Ghana’s cultural heritage.
He said Damba also contributed to social cohesion, cultural tourism and local economic activity by creating opportunities for businesses and communities during the celebration.
Mr Amoh said MTN’s relationship with Dagbon extended beyond its telecommunications services, noting that the company had enjoyed the trust and loyalty of communities in the area throughout its 30 years of operations in Ghana.
He said MTN would also deploy experience centres at key locations during the festival to assist customers and provide seamless services, while engaging them on their evolving needs.
Receiving the donation, Chief Musah Yakubu expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for supporting the Traditional Council and joining the people of Dagbon to celebrate Damba.
He said the gesture demonstrated MTN’s commitment to the people and institutions of Dagbon and prayed for continued growth and success for the company.
Chief Musah urged other corporate organisations to emulate MTN’s support for traditional institutions and cultural celebrations.
Mr Amoh expressed the hope that the contribution would help the Traditional Council deliver a successful celebration and wished the Chiefs and people of Dagbon a peaceful and memorable end to the 2026 Damba Festival.
