NPP parliamentary aspirant for Nandom, Hon. Alois K.K. Mohl, has unveiled an agenda centred on education, healthcare, agriculture and social welfare, promising to use his public-sector experience and national and international networks to drive development in the constituency.

Declaring his intention to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in Nandom on Thursday, Mr Mohl said his immediate focus would be to secure improvements in the four sectors, which he described as critical to the wellbeing and economic prospects of the people.

“I see a Nandom under the next NPP government with me as MP, show remarkable improvement in the first four years, in the areas of education and health sub-sectors, and a social welfare system that adequately responds to the needs of the vulnerable in our society,” he said.

On education, Mr Mohl said his experience as former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) had already demonstrated his ability to attract development projects to Nandom.

He cited a six-unit classroom block with a computer laboratory at Dondometeng, which he said was the first of its kind in public schools in Nandom, as well as a modern multipurpose electrical workshop for the Nandom Technical Institute, which he said is still under construction.

Mr Mohl further claimed that he had secured 15 additional infrastructure projects for Nandom under a development-partner arrangement covering education and health, but that the projects were withdrawn after his appointment at SIF was terminated.

According to him, the proposed projects included school blocks, teachers’ quarters, clinics and nurses’ quarters, a maternity home and a lecture hall for the Midwifery School.

He said his proposed education interventions would also include electoral-area watchdog committees, reward schemes for high-performing students and schools, learner-centred in-service training and the creation of human-capital data for every electoral area to support community development.

In healthcare, Mr Mohl said existing facilities would be improved and expanded, while health workers would receive periodic in-service training.

He also claimed that he was the first to donate critical personal protective equipment (PPE) to St Theresa Hospital and other health facilities in Nandom during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Agriculture, he said, would receive attention through collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Department and the establishment of mechanisation centres.

“I am a commercial farmer myself, so I know what I am talking about,” he said.

His social welfare proposal would involve identifying vulnerable residents, particularly poor widows and widowers, and establishing a system to provide food support during lean seasons.

Those with access to land, he said, could be supported with tractor services and seeds to produce their own food.

Mr Mohl is presenting the agenda against the backdrop of more than three decades of professional experience in Ghana’s public service. His political profile describes him as a public administrator, social development, training and development, and monitoring and evaluation specialist who rose to the rank of Director before entering frontline politics.

He holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from Central University, an MSc in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, an LLB from Mountcrest University College, a BA in Political Science with Sociology from the University of Ghana and a Certificate in Social Work from the School of Social Work, Osu.

He has also served in several social development and child-protection positions, including National Coordinator of the Ghana Care Reforms Initiative and head of desks responsible for international social services, non-profit organisations and early childhood development centres.

Mr Mohl said those experiences, coupled with his international exposure and networks, put him in a strong position to lobby for development resources for Nandom if elected.

“Whatever is due the people of Nandom, I will get it for them, no matter the cost,” he said.
