The Ashanti Regional Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah against what it describes as continued attacks on the character of the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye.
The group said it was deeply concerned about what it described as repeated remarks by the founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry against the two NPP figures.
In a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser, Beatrice Owusu, the group urged Prophet Owusu Bempah to “steer clear” of Dr. Ayew Afriye, whom it described as a peaceful, disciplined and non-violent leader.
The Women’s Wing said it would not remain silent while what it considers attempts to damage the reputation of Dr. Ayew Afriye and Dr. Bawumia continued.
“As mothers and women of this party, we will not sit unconcerned while attempts are made to denigrate the personality and good name of our Member of Parliament, or that of our flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia,” the statement said.
The group also appealed to the prophet to focus on his religious responsibilities rather than what it described as an unwarranted agenda against members of the NPP.
It argued that Ghana faced several national challenges that required the attention, guidance and prayers of religious leaders.
“Ghana has enough genuine national challenges requiring the attention and prayers of the clergy,” the statement said, adding that the country did not need religious leaders to focus on attacking the character of citizens.
Women’s Wing backs Bawumia, Ayew Afriye
The Ashanti Regional Women’s Wing said it had confidence in the integrity and public service record of both Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Ayew Afriye.
The group described the two men as personalities of “integrity, good character and proven service” to Ghana and said it remained firmly behind them.
It maintained that what it described as unfounded attacks would not undermine its confidence in the two NPP leaders.
The Women’s Wing therefore called on Prophet Owusu Bempah to exercise restraint, respect the dignity of Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Ayew Afriye, and desist from further conduct that could damage their reputations.

The Women’s Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ashanti Region, wishes to express its deep displeasure over the continued attacks by Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah on the person and character of Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.
We wish to caution Prophet Owusu Bempah to steer clear of Dr. Ayew Afriye, whom he knows very well to be a peaceful, disciplined and non-violent leader.
As mothers and women of this party, we will not sit unconcerned while attempts are made to denigrate the personality and good name of our Member of Parliament, or that of our flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia. We will not tolerate it.
We further wish to remind Prophet Owusu Bempah that his calling is to the pulpit, and we urge him to focus on that calling rather than pursue what appears to us to be a wicked and unwarranted agenda against personalities of this party.
Ghana has enough genuine national challenges requiring the attention and prayers of the clergy; it does not need a Man of God who chooses instead to attack the character of citizens who have done nothing but serve their country and party with distinction.
As the Women’s Wing of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, we have full confidence in Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Ayew Afriye as two distinct personalities of integrity, good character and proven service to this nation.
No amount of unfounded attacks will shake that confidence, and we stand firmly behind both men.
We therefore call on Prophet Owusu Bempah to exercise restraint, respect the dignity of these two personalities, and desist from further conduct capable of denigrating their character.
