Former Manso Nkwanta Deputy Communication Officer pledges to increase NDC parliamentary seats in Ashanti from seven to at least 10
Osei Richmond has successfully undergone vetting and been cleared by the Ashanti Regional Elections Committee to contest for the position of Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The young miner, who is among five candidates contesting for the position, has officially commenced his campaign following the successful completion of the vetting process.
Richmond previously served as Deputy Communication Officer for the NDC in the Manso Nkwanta constituency. In 2022, he contested for the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser position and placed second after the final vote count.
Speaking to KumasiMail.com after the vetting exercise, Richmond expressed gratitude to his supporters from across the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region for their moral support and presence throughout the process.
“I want to seize the opportunity to thank my supporters who travelled near and far across the 47 constituencies to offer their support to me at the vetting. Your presence here means a lot to me. Don’t rest; let’s restart the campaign with new energy until we are declared winners of the Regional Organiser election,” he urged.
He announced that his campaign had officially begun, calling on his supporters to intensify their efforts while maintaining a campaign centred on issues rather than personal attacks.
“I have officially launched my campaign for the Regional Organiser position effective today. I have been vetted and cleared; therefore, nothing restricts you from campaigning across the region. However, our campaign should be free from insults but issue-based,” he appealed.
Richmond Targets Increase in NDC Parliamentary Seats
Outlining his vision for the party, Richmond said his primary objective, if elected, would be to increase the NDC’s parliamentary representation in the Ashanti Region from seven seats to at least 10.
He described the target as realistic and said achieving it would strengthen the party’s presence in a region widely regarded as a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I know the responsibility of the Regional Organiser of the party. I have weighed myself, and I can say with authority that I am the best candidate for the task I have chosen,” he stated.
Constituency Organisers to Be a Priority
Richmond also pledged to prioritise the welfare and capacity-building of constituency organisers, whom he described as central to the party’s campaign structures.
According to him, equipping constituency organisers with the necessary resources, information and strategies would be essential to improving the party’s performance across the region.
“Constituency organisers are the engineering architects of the party’s campaign structures. If they are not well-resourced, they can never perform their functions well. Therefore, resourcing them with information and strategy will be my number one priority,” he assured.
Richmond is contesting the Ashanti Regional Organiser position alongside four other candidates as the NDC prepares to elect officers to lead its regional structures.
