The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is reportedly considering a decision to retain its 2024 parliamentary candidates in six constituencies in the Bawku Zone, effectively ruling out parliamentary primaries in the area ahead of the next general election.
According to information available to Voiceless Media, the proposed arrangement covers Bawku Central, Pusiga, Tempane, Garu, Binduri and Zebilla constituencies.
The decision is reportedly being considered as a measure of fairness to the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidates, who faced significant campaign restrictions during the last elections following a ban on political campaign activities by traditional authorities in the area.
Sources familiar with the development say the arrangement is intended to give the affected candidates another opportunity to contest, having been denied a level playing field during the previous election cycle.
However, the proposed arrangement will not necessarily guarantee automatic retention for all six candidates. Those who decide against contesting again are expected to be replaced in accordance with the NPP’s new guidelines for selecting parliamentary candidates.

The 2024 parliamentary candidates in the affected constituencies are expected to contact the party for further clarification and guidance on the reported decision.
The move, which has reportedly received favourable reactions from political strategists, is being viewed as a pragmatic approach to managing internal competition while strengthening the party’s electoral prospects in the conflict-affected zone.
The NPP is believed to have considerable electoral potential in the six constituencies, but sustained peace and stability in the Bawku Zone remain critical to creating a favourable environment for political activities, economic recovery and business growth.
