Thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) members and supporters gathered today, Sunday, October 27, 2024, for a constituency health walk in Asawase as part of the party’s preparations for the December 7th elections.

The well-attended event featured prominent NDC figures, including Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Edward Bawa MP, Ashanti regional executives and some other parliamentary candidate of the party in greater Kumasi.

Ashanti Regional Secretary’s Address

In his address to party supporters, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, emphasized the party’s strength in Asawase, stating that the constituency’s parliamentary seat would remain with the NDC.

He praised the incumbent MP, Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, highlighting his commitment to the people and achievements in addressing local needs, such as infrastructure improvements.

Dr. Amoakohene asserted, “The Asawase parliamentary seat will never fall to the NPP because Muntaka has met the expectations of the constituency. Asawase remains the only Zongo-dominated constituency without dust, thanks to the work done by the NDC through Muntaka.”

He further assured supporters that the NDC would protect their votes in the upcoming elections. “Everywhere we go, people tell us they will vote for us. We are also assuring you that we will safeguard your votes,” he said.

Okudzeto Ablakwa’s Endorsement of Muntaka

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described Muntaka as a dedicated MP, both in Parliament and within the constituency. “I met him in Parliament, and he has represented Asawase exceptionally well. Muntaka is a truthful person who only promises what he can deliver. The party must support him to increase our votes here,” Ablakwa stated.

He encouraged constituents to renew Muntaka’s mandate in Parliament, saying that this would ensure continued development in the area.

Accusations Against Former Education Minister NAPO

During the event, Ablakwa criticized Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, former Education Minister, also known as NAPO, accusing him of promoting LGBTQ+ education in schools through the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) curriculum.

He expressed frustration over NAPO’s alleged comments, stating, “NAPO can lie about Mahama for political gain, but he cannot lie about pastors and Imams. How can you claim the NDC used religious leaders to promote LGBTQ+? Such allegations are baseless.”

Ablakwa also reiterated the NDC’s commitment to reclaiming what he described as “stolen public funds” allegedly used by the NPP, including those invested in the National Cathedral project.

“All the public money they’ve wasted on the National Cathedral—they will return it,” he asserted.

Walk Route and Turnout

The walk began at Aboabo Post Office and proceeded through several key locations, including Asawase, Manhyia Roundabout, Alarbar, Asafo Labour, Amakom Traffic, before concluding back at Aboabo Post Office. The event saw a strong turnout, reflecting the NDC’s substantial support base in the region.
