The Effutu Constituency Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) narrowly escaped being lynched, while several others sustained severe injuries in an attack allegedly carried out by suspected supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The incident, which occurred in Winneba, also saw the vice chairman’s vehicles vandalized by individuals group as well.
In a swift response, police arrested two suspects, identified as Danquah and Mensah, on Wednesday evening. The suspects are currently assisting with investigations at the Winneba Divisional Police Command.
The victims of the attack suffered varying degrees of injuries, including one individual whose arm was severely slashed with a machete.
The whereabouts of Effutu Constituency Vice Chairman Abraham Ato Addo remain unknown. According to the NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency, James Kofi Annan, the vice chairman is feared to have been kidnapped. Annan urged the police to expedite their investigations and apprehend all individuals involved in the attack.
The victims are receiving medical treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital. The police have assured the public that they are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
