The Afigya Kwabre South District Education Directorate in the Ashanti region organized its first-ever inter-circuit arts and culture tournament on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at the Methodist School Park in Kodie, the district capital.
The event brought together students from various schools across the district to celebrate and promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
Activities featured included traditional dance performances, indigenous games such as Ampe, and an exhibition of cultural artifacts.
District Chief Executive Pearl Patricia Ankrah, addressing students at the event, emphasized the importance of discipline, obedience, and respect for authority.
Quoting from the Bible, she urged students to remain submissive to teachers and elders, warning against the growing trend of insubordination fueled by negative influences on social media.

“It is disheartening to see students challenging teachers on social media platforms. Such behavior must not be encouraged,” Ankrah said.
She particularly advised female students to avoid social pitfalls such as teenage pregnancy, cautioning that such actions could derail their academic and career aspirations. She encouraged all students to stay focused on their education, adding that discipline and obedience were essential for personal and national development.
District Director of Education David Akomea Asokwa also spoke at the event, appealing to parents to become more involved in their children’s lives and school activities. He expressed concern over the decline in cultural values, especially among young girls, citing inappropriate dressing during performances as an example.

“Parents are gradually abandoning their responsibilities by failing to correct their children’s inappropriate behaviors,” Asokwa said. “We must ensure that children are appropriately dressed for cultural activities to preserve our traditions.”
He announced that the participating students would be representing the district at a similar event next week and urged parents to support rehearsals by releasing their wards for practice sessions.
The inter-circuit tournament is part of the Directorate’s efforts to foster cultural awareness and moral upbringing among students in the Afigya Kwabre South District.
