Police in Tema have intercepted a truck carrying more than 3,000 slabs of suspected cannabis and arrested two men for allegedly attempting to bribe officers with GH¢150,000 to secure the vehicle’s release.
According to a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command, the seizure followed an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit in the early hours of 15 February.

At about 00:10 GMT, police intercepted a Sinotruck tipper truck, registration number GN 993-14, at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region. The vehicle was reportedly loaded with fertilizer sacks containing 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs, believed to be cannabis.
Police said the driver abandoned the truck and fled upon sighting officers. The vehicle and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters for further investigations.

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the driver and verify the ownership of the truck, the statement added.
In a related development, two suspects — Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 — were arrested on 16 February at about 19:10 GMT for allegedly attempting to bribe officers at the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office in Tema.

Police said the suspects offered GH¢150,000 in cash in a bid to unlawfully influence officers to release the truck and the suspected narcotics. The money has been retrieved and retained as evidence.
Both men remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court on 18 February.
The Tema Regional Police Command said it remains committed to combating narcotics-related offences and upholding integrity in the discharge of its duties.
