The Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Donatus Atanga, says the construction of a 24-hour market in Garu will help bring the NDC’s proposed women’s bank policy to life for women in the area.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the project on Tuesday, the Minister said critics had dismissed the women’s bank initiative as unrealistic, particularly for smaller communities like Garu.
However, he said the new market complex will include a women’s bank to provide women with direct access to financial services and economic opportunities.
“When we were talking about the women’s bank, people were thinking that it was a dream but today, we are going to build a 24-hour market with the women’s bank inside,” he said.
Mr. Atanga described the project as a major step in implementing the NDC’s flagship 24-hour economy policy, adding that it would stimulate business activity and create long-term opportunities for residents.
“I am happy to say today that this is the birth of a project that is going to translate the NDC policy of 24-hour economy,” he stated.
The Minister further described the initiative as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision to transform local economies and leave a lasting development legacy.
He also argued that the idea of a 24-hour market is a unique innovation introduced by President Mahama to promote round-the-clock economic activity across the country.
