The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has called on residents of Bawku Municipality to protect the proposed 24-Hour Market from vandalism, describing the project as a major step in implementing the NDC government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy.
Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony for the market in Bawku on Tuesday, the Minister said the facility would help drive economic growth, create jobs and improve livelihoods across the municipality.
“Today’s sod-cutting ceremony in Bawku Municipality is not an ordinary one. It is the birth of a facility that will translate the NDC’s flagship programme or policy of 24-Hour Economy,” he stated.
Hon. Atanga said the market would provide traders with a modern business environment while strengthening Bawku’s role as a major commercial hub in the Upper East Region.
He further appealed to residents to take ownership of the project and safeguard the facility for future generations.
Meanwhile, at a separate sod-cutting ceremony in Pusiga, the Regional Minister said the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Market there forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s broader vision to transform local economies and expand employment opportunities.
According to him, the inclusion of police and fire service posts within the market infrastructure would improve security and emergency response while also creating jobs through the recruitment of additional personnel.
He added that the project is expected to stimulate private sector growth, encourage round-the-clock business activities and boost economic opportunities for traders and residents in the area.
