An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 36-year-old Chinese businessman into police custody over the alleged theft of 440 bundles of T-shirts valued at GH¢3 million from a warehouse in Fadama.
The accused, identified as Evan Yung, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing when he appeared before the court.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offence occurred on November 11, 2025, after Yung was entrusted with the management of the warehouse while its owner travelled to China.
Presenting the facts, Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court that both the complainant and the accused are Chinese nationals residing in Osu, Accra.
The prosecution said the complainant left Ghana in May 2025 to care for his sick mother in China and entrusted the operations of his warehouse in Fadama to Yung. The warehouse reportedly contained 440 bundles of T-shirts worth approximately GH¢3 million.
Upon his return to Ghana in November 2025, the complainant was informed by Yung that the merchandise had been sold to customers who had allegedly failed to make payment.
The court heard that the complainant waited for several weeks for either the proceeds from the sales or the recovery of the goods. However, the accused was reportedly unable to account for the merchandise or produce the expected funds.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to Yung’s arrest and prosecution.
Chief Inspector Alorwu further told the court that the accused, in his caution statement to investigators, admitted to the offence.
Following his plea, the court ordered that Yung be remanded into police custody pending further proceedings.
The case has been adjourned to a later date.
