The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has reported encouraging developments in key clinical service indicators during the first half of 2024.
This was disclosed by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Prof. Othcere Addai-Mensah, during the opening of KATH’s 2024 Mid-Year Performance Review Conference held in Kumasi.
Prof. Addai-Mensah highlighted significant improvements in outpatient department (OPD) attendance, diagnostic services, and a reduction in institutional deaths.
He noted that specialist OPD cases for the period reached 133,480, surpassing the target of 130,274.
Similarly, laboratory services recorded 134,543 cases against a target of 100,842, while radiology services registered 33,797 cases, exceeding the target of 31,910.
One of the most notable achievements was a 3.7% decrease in institutional deaths compared to the previous year’s figures, reflecting the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving patient outcomes.
However, Prof. Addai-Mensah acknowledged that inpatient admissions, surgeries, deliveries, and physiotherapy services fell below their targets, which he attributed to the ongoing renovation projects at the hospital.
Despite these challenges, he emphasized the hospital’s critical role in providing tertiary healthcare services, particularly in the middle and northern regions of Ghana.
“As we continue to lead in the provision of tertiary healthcare, it is essential that we explore innovative ways to enhance access to care for the public,” Prof. Addai-Mensah stated.
He urged the hospital’s leadership and staff to remain dedicated to delivering patient-centered services and expressed hope that the conference would serve as a platform to assess the hospital’s performance and identify strategies to further improve service delivery in the second half of the year.
The 2024 Mid-Year Performance Review Conference at KATH underscores the hospital’s ongoing efforts to maintain high standards in healthcare delivery while addressing the challenges posed by infrastructure upgrades.
Prof. Addai-Mensah’s address serves as a call to action for continued innovation and dedication to improving health outcomes for the people of Ghana.
