Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has urged African graduates to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation as part of efforts to accelerate the continent’s economic development.
He made the call while representing President John Dramani Mahama at the maiden convocation ceremony of the University of Offa in Kwara State, Nigeria, where he addressed the institution’s Pioneer Class of 2026.
Speaking on the theme, “From Certificate to Enterprise: Africa’s Graduates as Architects of the Continent’s Economic Future,” Mr. Debrah encouraged the graduates to view their academic qualifications not as the end of their educational journey, but as the beginning of a greater responsibility to society.

He stressed the need for young Africans to translate their knowledge and skills into practical solutions, establish businesses, create employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the continent’s development.
According to him, Africa needs a generation of young people who are prepared to turn ideas into viable enterprises and develop homegrown solutions to the continent’s challenges.
Mr. Debrah also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria, particularly in education, trade, innovation and youth development.
He conveyed President Mahama’s greetings to the Olofa of Offa, the university community and the people of Offa, noting that the Nigerian city holds a special place in the President’s personal story.
The Chief of Staff congratulated the Pioneer Class of 2026, as well as the university’s management and staff, on the milestone. He also acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of parents and guardians in making the graduates’ achievements possible.
He expressed hope that the graduates’ accomplishments would create opportunities for others and inspire hope across their communities.
The maiden convocation marks an important milestone for the University of Offa as it celebrates its pioneering graduates and highlights the role of higher education in preparing young people to contribute to Africa’s economic future.
