The Ejuraman Senior High School (SHS) on 15th May 2025 launched its annual SRC Week Celebration under the theme: “To Develop the Intellectual and Moral Life of Students through Teaching, Learning and Monitoring.” The week-long event is filled with activities aimed at promoting student engagement, creativity, and community involvement.
However, the celebration was overshadowed by grave concerns raised by both school authorities and the Ejura Traditional Council about increasing cases of drug abuse among students.
Speaking at the launch, Patrick Osei, SRC Secretary, outlined key projects for the year, including the establishment of a barbershop, a new SRC office, and the procurement of dustbins for the school.
He also highlighted serious challenges facing the school including poor security, soil erosion, dilapidated infrastructure, drug abuse among students, inadequate teaching staff, and a shortage of learning materials.
Representing the Ejura Traditional Council, Aboafohene Asaase Bongya Dikro, on behalf of Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie, expressed deep worry over the rising trend of substance abuse among students.
Nana Kontor, in his remarks, issued a stern warning that any student caught abusing drugs would face severe punishment.
The Ejura Sekyedumase Municipal Education Directorate was also present at the event.
Deputy Director of Education, Mr. Mathew Njorkorne, encouraged students to uphold discipline and academic excellence.
He emphasized the importance of academic performance assessments in identifying areas for improvement and providing support to struggling students.
The SRC Week is expected to continue with a series of educational and cultural activities aimed at fostering unity, discipline, and development among students.
