Ghana’s Interior Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has called for stronger unity and cooperation among Commonwealth nations to unlock opportunities for shared prosperity.
Speaking at a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate Commonwealth Day in Accra, the minister stressed the importance of collaboration among member states to address global challenges and promote sustainable development.
Addressing the gathering under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” he reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance, promoting human rights, empowering young people, and advancing sustainable development.

He noted that countries within the Commonwealth of Nations must work together to create jobs, protect vulnerable populations, empower women and youth, and build fair economic systems that benefit all citizens.
The minister also acknowledged the historical injustices faced by many Commonwealth countries and called for sustained global conversations on reparative justice to promote restoration, equity, and shared prosperity.
He further highlighted Ghana’s efforts to address climate change, promote digital transformation, and empower young people as key priorities for national development.
Representing the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Dr. John Obeng Apea described Ghana as one of the key members of the Commonwealth and a business hub that symbolizes unity among the bloc’s 56 member states.

“The world is changing, and the Commonwealth is strategic for partnership. We need this time to champion the cause of the Commonwealth and renew our ties despite the challenging times,” he said.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana Christian Rogg, speaking on behalf of the Head of the Commonwealth, also emphasized the need for countries to work together in addressing global challenges.
He said cooperation among member states remains essential to ensuring that policies and initiatives benefit their people.

The ceremony was attended by government officials, diplomats, and students, and served as a moment of reflection and renewed commitment to the Commonwealth’s shared values.
The annual Commonwealth Day celebration highlights the importance of international cooperation while reminding member states that nation-building and global engagement remain key pathways to prosperity and equitable development.
