Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed a special team of investigators, intelligence officers and crime scene experts to support investigations into the deaths of two women found in a hotel room in Tamale in the Northern Region.
The women, believed to be Beninese nationals, were found dead in a room at Cab Hospitality Hotel in the Gbewa Residential Area on Monday, August 3, after hotel management alerted the Northern Regional Police Command.
Police said officers who responded to the scene recovered the bodies, which have since been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
According to the police, preliminary investigations are focused on establishing the circumstances surrounding the deaths, confirming the identities of the deceased and working with the relevant authorities to notify and contact their families.

The special team deployed by the IGP comprises personnel from the National Police Headquarters and is expected to reinforce ongoing investigations by the Northern Regional Police Command.
The incident comes only weeks after police in Tamale arrested two Nigerian nationals who were allegedly attempting to flee following the death of their compatriot in a separate case, fuelling fresh concerns over unexplained deaths involving foreign nationals in the city.
Police, however, said there is no indication that the two incidents are linked.
The Police have appealed to the public to assist with investigations by providing any credible information. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to call the Police emergency numbers 191 or 18555, or report to the nearest police station.
