The Techiman Traditional Council has de-stooled five Northern ethnic chiefs for allegedly challenging its authority, accusing them of misconduct and actions deemed contrary to the customs and traditions of the Techiman Traditional Area.
The decision was announced on Tuesday, August 4, by the Gyasihene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Kosakore Tuapieh II.
Addressing the media, Nana Kosakore Tuapieh II said the affected chiefs defied the authority of the Traditional Council by filing a petition at the Techiman High Court to prevent the Techimanhene and the Gyasihene from exercising their traditional authority over them.
He explained that, as the traditional leader responsible for all ethnic chiefs in Techiman, he and the Traditional Council have the sole mandate to determine the leadership of the Zongo community within the traditional area.
The de-stooled chiefs are Nuhu Uthman, Chief of Songhai; Ibrahim Yakubu, Chief of Gurma; Fuseini Salifu, Deputy Chief of the Dagaaba Community; Muhammed Nabali, Chief of Anufor (Chokossi); and S.K. Dasah, Chief of the Dagaaba Community.

According to the Gyasihene, the chiefs’ actions amounted to a direct challenge to the authority of the Traditional Council and violated the customs and traditions governing the traditional area.
He stressed that the Council would not tolerate any conduct capable of undermining the peace, unity and stability of Techiman.
Nana Kosakore Tuapieh II therefore urged all chiefs and community leaders to respect the authority of the Traditional Council and work together to preserve harmony and strengthen the longstanding relationship among the various ethnic groups in the municipality.
