The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has directed students not to pay any increased accommodation fees, stating that no official approval has been granted for any upward adjustment in hostel rents or traditional hall fees.
In a notice dated July 1, 2026, and signed by SRC President Kwame Ntiamoah Ntim and SRC General Secretary Jeminah Elorm Ahiabor, the council said it was responding to growing concerns among students over reported accommodation fee increases.
The SRC stated that students occupying private hostels should not pay any additional rent under the current circumstances. According to the council, any attempt by hostel management to increase rent without the necessary assessment and approval from the Rent Control Department should be reported immediately.
The council also clarified that there has been no increase in traditional hall fees, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise. It therefore instructed students to disregard any fee structures or price lists issued by hall authorities that indicate increased charges and advised them not to make any payments based on such notices.
“The SRC remains unshakeable in its commitment to defending your financial interests and ensuring fair treatment across all residential facilities,” the statement said.
The council assured students that it is engaging the appropriate authorities to address the matter and pledged to provide further updates as discussions progress.
The SRC appealed to students to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative while efforts are made to resolve the accommodation fee concerns.
