Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has expressed his condolences following the death of the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II, describing his passing as “the end of an era” marked by wisdom, dignity, and exemplary leadership.
In a condolence message, the minister extended his sympathies to the Royal Family, the Chiefs and Elders of Dagbon, the people of the Kingdom, and the nation, saying he received news of the Ya-Na’s passing with profound grief.
According to Alhaji Muntaka, the late Ya-Na dedicated his life to serving the people of Dagbon and played a significant role in promoting peace, unity, reconciliation, and the development of the kingdom.
“The passing of His Royal Majesty marks the end of an era defined by wisdom, dignity, and exemplary leadership,” the minister said, adding that the late traditional ruler’s reign would be remembered for the calm, stability, and sense of purpose he brought to Dagbon.
He further praised the Ya-Na’s humility, statesmanship, and commitment to harmony, noting that his leadership strengthened unity within the kingdom and left a lasting legacy that would continue to inspire future generations and Ghana’s traditional leadership.
The Interior Minister also offered prayers for the late monarch, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him mercy, expand and illuminate his grave, and admit him into Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
He prayed for strength and patience for the Royal Family, the Chiefs and Elders of Dagbon, the people of the kingdom, and all Ghanaians as they mourn the loss of the revered traditional leader.
The death of Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II has drawn tributes from across Ghana, with many recognizing his contributions to peace, unity, and the preservation of Dagbon’s cultural heritage. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the Dagbon Traditional Council.
