The Ashanti Regional Steering Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the party’s national leadership to uphold the use of the newly validated delegates’ album for the conduct of constituency executive elections in the Tafo and Manso Nkwanta constituencies.
In a letter dated July 14, 2026, and addressed to the General Secretary of the party, the Committee expressed concern over the ongoing controversies surrounding the electoral processes in the two constituencies. It argued that the new delegates’ album remains the only legitimate register for the election of constituency executives.
According to the Committee, polling station elections were successfully conducted across all constituencies, resulting in the compilation and validation of a new delegates’ album. It maintained that reverting to the previous album after the completion of that process would be inappropriate and inconsistent with the party’s constitutional provisions.
“The new album is the only approved album for the election of constituency executives,” the Committee stated, stressing that the Steering Committee would continue to act strictly in accordance with the NPP Constitution.
The Committee further upheld that the newly validated album should be used for elections in both Tafo and Manso Nkwanta, noting that nominations had already been opened and elections subsequently held based on the new register. It argued that any attempt to return to the old album would be unconstitutional.
The statement also warned against removing duly elected and validated polling station executives from the delegates’ list. It said such a move could have serious political consequences for the party in the affected constituencies ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to the Committee, individuals who have been duly elected as polling station executives automatically qualify as delegates and should not be disqualified from participating in the constituency executive elections.
To reinforce its position, the Committee drew a comparison with the Electoral Commission’s voter registration process, arguing that it would be unreasonable for the Electoral Commission to conduct a limited voter registration exercise and later abandon the updated register in favour of an old one for an election.
It questioned whether the NPP itself would accept such an approach from the Electoral Commission, insisting that the party should not adopt a similar practice in resolving the disputes in Tafo and Manso Nkwanta.
The Steering Committee urged the National Office to give due consideration to its recommendations in the interest of fairness, transparency and strict adherence to the party’s constitution. It expressed confidence that the party leadership would act to preserve the integrity of the electoral process and maintain unity within the Ashanti Region.
The letter was signed by Stephen Owusu, Ashanti Regional Research and Elections Officer.
