The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to Ghanaian nationals following escalating hostilities in the Middle East, urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the region and to exercise heightened vigilance.
In a press release dated Feb. 28, the Ministry said it is closely monitoring the evolving security situation, particularly ongoing coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against targets linked to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Ministry noted that Iran has also launched retaliatory actions against Israeli and U.S. military assets in the region, including in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the statement, the developments have resulted in airspace closures, flight disruptions and increased security alerts across parts of the Middle East.
The Government of Ghana called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions and return to diplomatic engagement in the interest of protecting lives and preserving regional peace and stability.
The Ministry advised Ghanaian nationals currently residing in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to remain indoors where possible, comply with directives issued by local authorities and maintain heightened awareness at all times.
Citizens were further urged to avoid large gatherings and sensitive locations, monitor official communications closely and keep travel documents readily accessible.
The Ministry also announced the activation of an emergency preparedness plan, with ongoing assessments to determine whether evacuations of Ghanaian nationals may be necessary.
It disclosed that some staff of Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran have been evacuated, while essential personnel remain in place to coordinate assistance for Ghanaians in Iran.
Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the affected region remain operational and available to provide consular support.
