The St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Society, a women’s group within the Catholic Church known for its charitable and philanthropic activities, has officially launched a building project at its headquarters in Ohwimasi-Kwadaso in Kumasi.
The project was formally inaugurated on Friday, March 6, with a sod-cutting ceremony attended by members of the society and clergy of the Catholic Church.

The initiative follows the launch of two major policies—healthcare and infrastructure development—during the society’s International Congress in April 2025. The policies were introduced by the International President, Obaapanin Rose Adwoa Deku, in response to pressing needs within the organization.
Speaking during the ceremony, leaders of the society emphasized that the building project will serve multiple purposes, including providing a space for the society’s activities and eventually functioning as a home for the aged, where spiritual and social support can be offered to members and the wider community.

The ceremony, though simple, was attended by key figures within the church and the society. Present were the International Spiritual Director of the society, Very Rev. Fr. Kingsley, and Rev. Fr. Emmanuel of St. Augustine’s Parish.
Obaapanin Rose Adwoa Deku, assisted by past International Presidents Obaapanin Georgina Afriyie and Obaapanin Felicia Birago, performed the symbolic tape-cutting to mark the commencement of the project. Also present were current international executives of the society, members of the project committee, and a representative from the diaspora.
Founded about sixty years ago at St. Peter’s Basilica in Kumasi, the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Society has grown significantly over the decades. The society now has branches across all archdioceses and dioceses in Ghana, as well as international branches in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sierra Leone.
Leaders of the society used the occasion to appeal to benefactors and the public for support to help complete the project and fulfill their vision of creating a facility that will serve both the society and the elderly in need of care.
The society says the project forms part of its broader mission to provide spiritual guidance and social support while continuing its longstanding commitment to charitable work.
