Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II, describing the revered monarch as a father figure whose wisdom, guidance and unwavering principles profoundly shaped his life.
Dr. McKorley, who holds the honorary Dagbon chieftaincy title of Gubga-Naa, expressed his grief in an emotional message posted on his official Facebook page following news of the King’s passing.
“I’m a broken man this morning. I’m sad, devastated, upset, dejected and heartbroken,” he wrote.
The renowned Ghanaian businessman said the death of the Yaa-Naa was not only a personal loss but also a devastating moment for the Dagbon Kingdom and the nation.
“Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, King of Dagbon, the man who taught me to fearlessly pursue what I believe in, has passed. I’ve lost a father figure, and a kingdom has lost its leader,” he stated.
Dr. McKorley said he found it difficult to fully express the depth of his sorrow, noting that words could not adequately capture the emotions he was experiencing.
Reflecting on his relationship with the late monarch, he recalled that from their very first meeting he recognised in the Yaa-Naa a man of exceptional integrity and wisdom.
According to him, the late King became a trusted source of advice, guidance and direction, describing him as “a principled man” and “a gifted strategist” whose ideas and values left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The businessman said the passing of Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II represented a profound loss not only for Dagbon but for Ghana and humanity as a whole.
He praised the late monarch’s humility, wisdom, fatherly guidance and steadfast commitment to serving Allah, saying his reign was characterised by faith, compassion, sacrifice and a relentless pursuit of peace.
“He lived a life of faith, compassion, sacrifice and purpose, leaving footprints of peace and love that time can never erase,” Dr. McKorley wrote.
Calling on the people of Dagbon and Ghanaians to draw strength from the King’s exemplary life, he urged mourners to remember the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
“Though tears may fill our eyes, may we all take comfort in the worthy life he lived and the countless souls he inspired through his rule. His memory should remain alive in our hearts, in the Kingdom of Dagbon, and in the lives of the people he shepherded with grace and sincerity.”
Yaa-Naa Abubakari Mahama II, who ascended the Skin of Dagbon in January 2019, passed away after a brief illness. His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from traditional rulers, political leaders, business executives and citizens across Ghana, many remembering him as a monarch whose reign was defined by reconciliation, humility and an unwavering commitment to peace and unity in the Dagbon Kingdom.
