The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has donated five oxygen concentrators, including one mobile oxygen concentrator, to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital to strengthen newborn care and improve access to lifesaving oxygen therapy.
The donation, which was made possible through support from Rikair Company Limited, is expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide critical care for newborns who require oxygen support while improving emergency response and patient transfer services within the facility.
According to the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the five oxygen concentrators will complement the NICU’s existing equipment and enable healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective oxygen therapy to vulnerable infants.
She explained that the mobile oxygen concentrator will provide critical support during emergencies and facilitate the safe movement of patients between units within the hospital.
Madam Darko-Opoku noted that the growing demand for neonatal critical care services makes investments in essential medical equipment necessary to improve survival outcomes for newborns, particularly in areas where access to advanced healthcare support remains a challenge.

She emphasized that partnerships between the public and private sectors continue to play a significant role in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system, adding that collaborations such as the one with Rikair Company Limited are helping to bridge gaps in medical equipment availability.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, expressed appreciation to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and Rikair Company Limited for the donation.
Dr. Abubakari Bawah said the equipment would significantly improve the NICU’s ability to respond to emergencies and provide quality care to newborns requiring oxygen support.
He added that the donation comes at an important time as the hospital continues to manage increasing demands for specialized neonatal services.
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund expressed gratitude to Rikair Company Limited for its generous contribution, describing the partnership as a meaningful intervention aimed at improving healthcare delivery and saving the lives of Ghana’s youngest and most vulnerable patients.
The donation forms part of GMTF’s broader commitment to equipping health facilities across the country with critical medical equipment to enhance quality healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes.
