The Chief Home Officer of MTN Ghana, Richard Acheampong, says reliable, high-speed internet connectivity in homes will play an increasingly important role in Ghana’s digital economy as more people work, study and operate businesses from home.
Speaking at the MTN Bright Conversations event at MTN House in Accra, Mr Acheampong said homes have become central to economic and social activities, creating a growing demand for dependable broadband services.
He noted that while mobile internet has transformed communication over the years, changing consumer needs now require dedicated home broadband capable of supporting multiple users and connected devices at the same time.
According to him, households are increasingly relying on internet services for activities such as online learning, remote work, entertainment and home-based businesses, making stable connectivity more important than ever.
Mr Acheampong said internet users are more concerned about consistent and reliable service than internet speed alone. He explained that although speed remains an important measure of network capacity, customers primarily expect internet services that function without frequent interruptions.

He also addressed the perception that fibre broadband is intended mainly for high-income households, arguing that many families are adopting home internet services because of the benefits they provide for education, business and access to online opportunities.
Mr Acheampong said reliable home internet supports a wide range of activities, including remote work, online education, small business operations and improved household productivity.
He added that MTN Ghana has introduced digital processes that allow customers to check fibre coverage, submit applications, make payments online and schedule installations. He also advised customers to ensure proper placement of Wi-Fi routers to improve internet coverage within their homes.
Looking ahead, Mr Acheampong said advances in technology are expected to lead to more intelligent homes, where connected devices and automated systems will increasingly support everyday activities.
