Two suspected drug dealers have been arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command following an intelligence-led operation that led to the seizure of 170 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at Katariga in the Tamale Metropolis.
The operation, carried out at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, was conducted by the Northern Regional Special Operations Team, popularly known as “Red Maria,” under the leadership of Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku.
Police first arrested 32-year-old Godwin Yamegi after recovering two parcels of the suspected narcotic from him. During interrogation, Yamegi allegedly identified 33-year-old Seth Amekuse as his supplier.
Acting on the information, the team proceeded to Amekuse’s residence at Katariga, where a search of his room uncovered an additional 168 parcels of the suspected Indian hemp.

In a statement, the Northern Regional Police Command said the exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Drugs Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation and processing.
The two suspects remain in police custody and will be put before the court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command expressed appreciation to the public for its continued support and urged residents to volunteer information on drug-related and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.
