Leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) member in the Nandom Constituency, Lawyer Sylvester Isang, has called on the party’s newly elected polling station and constituency executives to prioritise unity and grassroots mobilisation as the party seeks to reclaim the Nandom parliamentary seat in the 2028 general election.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, the Tamale-based private legal practitioner said the recently concluded internal elections should mark the beginning of a new chapter for the party following its defeat in the 2024 elections.
He urged party leaders to put behind them all factional interests and work collectively towards rebuilding the party.
“Whatever camps existed before the elections should now become history. Once the elections are over, everybody must come together and work for the common good of the party,” he said.
Lawyer Isang emphasised that the first responsibility of the newly elected executives should be to reconcile members who contested but were unsuccessful.
According to him, those who lost internal elections still command significant support within the party and should remain actively involved in party activities.
“No one contests an election and gets zero votes. Those supporters are still members of the party and must be carried along,” he said.
He described the recent constituency elections as a positive step towards restoring confidence among party members because aspirants were largely given the opportunity to contest freely.
Lawyer Isang argued that the democratic nature of the elections would make reconciliation easier since members were more likely to accept outcomes that emerged through transparent processes.

Looking ahead to the 2028 parliamentary election, he expressed confidence that the NPP could regain the Nandom seat if it presented the right candidate and remained united.
He maintained that the party’s prospects depended on selecting a candidate who enjoyed broad acceptance across the constituency and was capable of bringing members together.
“The NPP can recapture the seat if it presents a candidate who is on the ground, who has not created factions within the party, who is a unifier and whose policies the people can believe in,” he stated.
Lawyer Isang also said the electorate would ultimately judge all political parties based on performance.
He observed that while the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Richard Kuuire, still had time to deliver on his promises, voters would make their own assessment before the next election.
“He still has time to perform, and if he does well, the political landscape can change. But if the NPP does the right things and presents the right candidate, the party can certainly win back the seat,” he said.
Lawyer Isang stressed that returning to power should not be viewed as an end in itself.
“The most important thing is not just winning power but ensuring that the people genuinely feel the impact of the mandate they have entrusted to you,” he added.
