The Ministry of Health has announced the temporary closure of the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo in the Bono East Region following persistent student unrest and what it describes as a breakdown in discipline and institutional regulations.
In a press release issued on July 29, 2026, the Ministry said the closure takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
According to the statement, the decision follows weeks of disturbances on campus despite several interventions by the Ministry, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and other stakeholders aimed at resolving the impasse through dialogue and counselling.
The Ministry said some students continued to engage in conduct that disrupted academic activities and threatened the peace, safety and orderly administration of the institution, making it necessary to suspend operations.
It explained that the temporary closure is intended to restore calm, safeguard lives and property, and allow the appropriate authorities to assess the situation before determining the conditions for reopening the college.
As part of the directive, all students have been instructed to vacate the campus peacefully and return to their respective homes. Parents and guardians have also been advised to make the necessary arrangements for their wards.
The Ministry assured students, staff and the general public that every effort would be made to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
It added that information regarding the reopening of the institution would be communicated through official channels when the prevailing circumstances improve.
The Ministry also appealed to all stakeholders for their understanding, cooperation and support as it works to restore a safe, secure and disciplined learning environment at the college.
The statement was signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions, on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
