The Majority Leader of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has publicly questioned the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over the absence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Ofori-Atta has not reported to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for questioning regarding alleged corruption charges.
Earlier, Afenyo-Markin had assured Parliament that Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana by May 2025 after undergoing medical treatment abroad.
However, as of June 3, 2025, Ofori-Atta has not returned, leading Ayariga to accuse Afenyo-Markin of failing to keep his promise.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on June 3, Ayariga criticized the Minority Leader for his inconsistent actions.
Ayariga said, “He promised this House that he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May; we are in June, where is Ken Ofori-Atta? When you make promises, you have to fulfill them.”
He further urged that Afenyo-Markin should not be taken seriously in Parliament if he cannot honor his commitments.
“Mr. Speaker, he should not be heard in this House because when he makes promises, he cannot fulfil them. When we make promises, you have to fulfil them,” he added.
The Majority Leader also took aim at the Minority caucus’s inconsistent stance on issues of accountability.
He recalled the recent drama at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where the Minority vowed to spend the night in solidarity during the detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Yet, the Minority members left by 10 PM the same day, a move Ayariga described as a lack of genuine commitment.
