The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an investigation into Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), concerning alleged misconduct during his time in office.
The probe focuses on potential irregularities allegedly occurred during his leadership at the regulatory body overseeing Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.
“We’ve commenced investigations into suspected corruption and corruption related offenses, in respect of alleged embezzlement of Ghc1.3 billion from the unified petroleum pricing fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority”, special prosecutor stated.
The Special Prosecutor reveals that the current investigations targets staffs and former NPA boss, Dr. Mustapha Hamid.
“Investigation primarily targets the following persons, the coordinator of the UPPF, Mr Jacob Amoah, NPA Staff Freda Tandoh, NPA Staff Windy Ashun Newman and former Chief Executive Officer of NPA Mustapha Abdul-Hamid”.
The OSP has assured the public that it is dedicated to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation. The aim is to ensure accountability and uphold integrity within public institutions.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s tenure as CEO of the NPA ended in January 2025, when Godwin Edudzi Tameklo was appointed as the Acting CEO. These changes in leadership followed a series of appointments made by President John Dramani Mahama.
As of now, Dr. Abdul-Hamid has not released any public statement addressing the investigation.
