Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and a hopeful presidential aspirant within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed claims that he intends to retract critical remarks made against his fellow aspirants in the NPP presidential primaries.
Addressing the media following his vetting by the NPP presidential election committee,
Dr. Acheampong was asked whether he would apologize for the pointed comments aimed at his competitors.
He acknowledged that there have been some jabs but stood firm on his position.
“There have been a few jabs,” he said.
“I think there will be a couple more. We are embarking on a campaign. I mean, I will be hit. Others will be hit. It’s part of the campaign. It’s normal in our politics,” he added.
He emphasized the need for caution, adding that while political campaigns naturally involve criticism, candidates should exercise wisdom to avoid crossing lines that could threaten unity after the elections.
“Except that wisdom must be applied for you to know the line beyond which you are infuriating somebody. That will make unity post-election difficult. But the regular jabs of pecking people’s faces, I mean, those ones will happen. We just have to make sure that we don’t poke the eyes, and that will become a problem,” Dr. Acheampong stated.
