The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing the Ghana Armed Forces and improving troop welfare, as he witnessed this year’s Land Combat Power Demonstration Exercise at the Bundase Training Camp.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Mr. Genfi commended the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for their professionalism and operational readiness, describing the exercise as “a vivid expression of discipline, strategy, and coordination — the very markers of military excellence.”
The annual event, organized by the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), showcases the combined operational capabilities of the Army, Navy, and Air Force in executing complex combat maneuvers.
It forms part of the practical component of the Senior Staff Course, which integrates academic learning with real-time operational simulation.
“Today’s demonstration underscores that the defence of our nation rests not only on individual skill, but on the seamless synergy of all arms working together,” Mr. Genfi said.
“This government remains committed to ensuring our forces are well-equipped, well-trained, and well-motivated to defend Ghana with pride and dignity.”
The Deputy Minister highlighted the Mahama administration’s ongoing retooling and modernization programme for the Armed Forces, which he said represents “a scale of transformation never before witnessed in Ghana’s history.”
Beginning next year, he noted, the initiative will see the steady supply of new equipment, including armored vehicles, drones, and modern communication systems — part of President Mahama’s broader “Resetting Ghana Agenda.”
The Minister also emphasized that troop welfare remains a central focus of government policy. Efforts are underway to enhance conditions of service, expand accommodation facilities, and improve access to healthcare and family support systems.
“The strength of our military lies not only in its arsenal, but in the well-being of those who serve,” he stated. “We are taking deliberate steps to ensure our officers and men are well-resourced and motivated.”
The Deputy Minister commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their continued professionalism and contributions to peacekeeping operations globally, urging personnel to uphold the highest standards of conduct and discipline.
“Every soldier and officer is expected to respect the rule of law and safeguard the rights of all citizens,” he cautioned.
“Any actions that bring the image of the Armed Forces into disrepute will be dealt with decisively.”
Mr. Genfi praised the Chief of the Defence Staff, the Military High Command, and the planners of the exercise for their exceptional leadership, singling out the 1st Infantry Battalion for its key role in organizing the event.
He further lauded the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College for its contribution to military education and regional cooperation, highlighting the participation of officers from other African countries as a sign of Ghana’s commitment to continental security collaboration.
The Deputy Minister concluded by reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to peace and security within the sub-region, pledging continued cooperation with international partners to combat terrorism, violent extremism, and other emerging threats.
On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Genfi officially declared the 2025 Land Combat Power Demonstration Exercise closed.
